what do you call a person who is friends with you, has ways of contacting you but would rather listen to how you are from other people and not get to know you personally??

What is it that you expect from them? Have you made it clear to them? Maybe the person thinks his relationship with you is not so close that he/she can ask directly but as my friend here said they do care about you which is why they’re asking your friend…
that is true. the person is hardly busy. they hardly reply to me but they talk to the other person who talks about me to them. ever since that happened they hardly bother to talk to me.
It also depends on what kind of relationship you have with the person. Coz from my personal opinion I had a one sided hard crush on my (once a best friend) friend for 4 years… I never confessed that I still have feelings for her but did confront her recently about crushing on her during college… she made it clear she never had anything like that for me and distanced herself at one point when she figured it out… so yeah, I still ask about her health and how she is from her friends but not her as I do not want whatever (relationship/friendship) we have left to finish…
Also, I do respect her a lot as she is not leading me on just coz I love her even though she had her heartbroken recently…
