I’ve actually had conversations about this with a group of my guy friends, and they all say that they never compare their girlfriend’s body and skills in bed with a girl from their past. When a guy is dating his girl, she is the only one on his mind and he is happy just to be having sex in general.

Well, we all go through this thought process and the only way that I can describe it is - each relationship is different because they are different people.
If you feel the desire to reconcile with him, I feel that communicating with him openly is the best thing to do. He won’t be able to do anything about you feeling hurt over him being with someone else but perhaps tell him what you want out of any relationship with him and see how it goes from there.
