Biggest reason is they are purposeless, aimless, seeking validation from strangers around.

It's so hard to make friends especially after you learn to be on you own, doings things alone, going anywhere alone. I was in depression. I am living away from family now due to work. Just to not fall into depression again, Now I wanna socialize and be with people, coz it does keeps my depression away atleast not that dense and all my teammates are opposite genders. Being introvert it's so hard to make friends. Whom do I bring with myself. It gets awkward as I am alone with these people. I am good alone but when going out with people it's such a mental exercise.
