THIS 90 SECOND VISUALISATION WILL HELP YOU MANAGE DIFFICULT EMOTIONS:
1. Close your eyes.
2. Notice where in your body you feel the emotion gut, heart, head are most common.
3. Visualise what this emotion looks like. A colour, shape, object, character
e.g red fire, a knot in the stomach, a green goblin.
4. Using your brain, start making this image get smaller and smaller
e.g pour water on the fire, kill the goblin or just see the image slowly dissolve.
5. Make it so small it’s eventually the size of a pea and then it’s gone Repeat step 3, 4, 5 as many times until the emotion has been released.
6. Finish with 3 deep breaths and notice how different you/your body feels.
This works because the brain doesn’t know the difference between what is real and what is imagined.
