Confusion

I feel like I can't rant or vent to my best friend because he has it worse. Like, he's a very sweet and sensitive person and he has it quite rough. We go to different schools in different towns, but from what he's telling me, his classmates make fun of him and his only friend from his class is a girl who he doesn't really like because she's unnecessarily mean. (Very judgemental and unsympathetic, called herself a narcissist and didn't see anything wrong with it.) It doesn't help that he's socially a bit awkward. He constantly feels depressed or mentally exhausted and he's overthinking a lot. Naturally, he vents to me a lot, and I appreciate that he's feeling comfortable enough to do that with me, but whenever I want to vent I always feel guilty. Like, "he's having it worse so I shouldn't feel so hurt about my situation" type of thing. I have had this type of mindset long before, which has stopped me from getting help when I was in a bad place mentally. And now it's not getting any better. I want to vent about my birthday, my week and my class but I always feel like it's nothing compared to what he's been going through. That has led me to not talk to my best friend as much as before tbh. That, and sometimes I want to vent to him about stuff other people said/did that hurt me, but I can't because he has done the same. One of the examples, I wanted to vent how my 2 friends forgot about my birthday and how I dont like my birthday, but he forgot my birthday as well (still got me a gift and congratulated me, but it still hurt.) I know I should communicate with him about stuff like this but I don't want to hurt him. I should probably do it as carefully as possible, although I don't think that's possible without hurting his feelings
