I was in a long distance relationship for four years and we are still together. Who said LDR’s cannot work? It’s all about understanding that you don’t let the physical distance become emotional distance.

I am so proud of you. I have been through something similar and yes it can be really tough. It requires a great deal of maturity which you possess and that’s great!

I partially agree. I think people attach the idea of love and physical proximity, a little too closely to each other. Nothing beats the bubbly feeling when you see and touch your partner after a course of time. I think distance only makes people fonder of each other. Having said that, I also believe that LDRs are not meant for certain people. It’s definitely a challenge that tests patience, love, loyalty and requires putting your needs/wants after the spiritual love. And I don’t blame people who say LDRs are difficult and don’t work sometimes because yes, resolving issues over facetime and texts is in fact a struggle. Emotional struggles and insecurities sometimes just need a shoulder to cry on or a hand to hold or a chest to lie on. It’s more of question of personal preference and what you find to be physically and emotionally comfortable.

Agreed. I moved to the USA from an Asian country on the K1 fiance visa after 10 years of LDR.

It’s so strange that you say that. I’ve only been in one for about a year and a half, and it’s with my best friend and it’s pretty cool so far. Maybe because the entire relationship is quite chill right now, we’re both focusing on our careers and there’s trust and faith in our intentions towards each other and other people as well. I guess, it can work? Even though, you’d wish you could come home to them, the distance helps us realise what we mean to each other. It’s weirdly special in its own way.
