Sharing Our Innermost Thoughts

I read an article today in the newspaper which stated that a 17-year-old boy had jumped off the 15th floor of his building because he was depressed about his dark skin complexion and body figure. I was really really sad after reading this, such a young boy giving up on life because society told him that he was not worth it.

We place so much focus on being fair, having a light skin complexion that people start to feel burdened by their dark complexion. The society that we live in has placed being fair at such a high footing that anything other than fair is laughed at or is teased. This so-called ‘society’ is so much into fair complexion that we don’t even realize how much pain or stress other people go through. For this society being comfortable in your own skin is not acceptable, the only thing acceptable is matching their beauty standards. You’ll be considered beautiful or handsome if you look in a certain way or have a certain type of body and that is so wrong.

This is for all those who are reading this, you are beautiful the way you look and the way you are. Don’t let ‘society’ ever tell you that you are not worth anything. Don’t let the so-called standards that are set by this society ever make you feel less comfortable in your own skin. You can proudly say “fuck off” to these standards. You are beautiful/dashing/amazing/handsome/awesome inside out.
