I say tell your friend, if they really like you and understand your situation I’m sure they will help you and they know their sibling best And it would never be awkward if you first tell your friend. If you tell your crush first your friend will feel betrayed and things will get awkward.
I know you are completely right and I too feel the same way but I’m not below average looking and if I tell I like her brother then she will make fun of me and may stop talking to me or tell everything to her parents.
