Growing Up

Is it possible to love someone you've never met in person? For instance, I have been talking to this guy for quite some time now, a little more than a year, and we haven't met in person yet. We haven't even talked on the phone at all but we've played games online with each other so I know what he sounds like, if that even matters. He is so sweet and kind, and I think I love him. Like 88 percent sure. I feel strongly towards a lot of things, like if someone is hurting or angry or depressed I can feel their pain like its my own. For some reason I just feel so deeply with everything. So..is it possible? Can I really love him without meeting him in person? Or am I so damaged that I just cling on to anyone that shows me affection? I feel so silly asking this at the age of 22, but I don't know what to do.
