How do deal with someone who has low self esteem?

Met the most amazing, kind, loving man, he loved the fuck out of me. And then one day he withdraws himself saying he needs to work on himself and he can't emotionally invest himself. But then again, he was the one who pursued me for a long-term relationship. He was the one who said *its not just you now, its me+you=we* I mean, who does that? How can men be so fickly minded? Is it just me or do other girls also find guys inconsistent? 

From many years I just focused on studies and  i always wanted to do more things in life but never had the courage to anything. But today for the first time i joined NCC in college and now I am feeling so good. But i am a little scared. I know for some people it's seems silly but for me its a very big thing I did. I hope I will do more things like this to build  confidence in me🙂. 
Plzz give me some suggestions that how I can build self confidence and self esteem 😶
