Well, when he said that you have become addictive it means he has his 99% of focus on you, which is not good. You shall feel proud of it that he has realised his mistake and is trying to improve, although not in a correct way.
You should also focus on your things and perhaps also be open for him if he comes back because he could still have feelings for you but has chosen to get away because these feelings might be causing distractions
One important thing to note here is that the relationship has not ended on bad terms. Its rather a desperate and extreme step to improvise
