Detaching yourself from people however important they may be to you is a sign of emotional intelligence. Families, friendship dynamics replay these vents that satiate our need for a familiar emotional fulfillment, being codependent for validation, esteem, ego boost, self deprecation etc. We need to step out and really truthfully measure who and what adds a bit of growth and brings us closer to our true, better self and then make choices.
