why do people hesitate to go to a therapist? like what stops one from taking help, other than financial concerns. (Just curious)
Fear of acceptance, hard to open up about feelings, social norms, lack of support or guidance.
Oh ok Does it become easier to do it anonymously?
Yes, it does. I am using the app for a long time. People feel comfortable when they can share things Anonymously
Have you ever taken any kind of therapy
Interesting. What do you feel needs to change in order for you to approach a therapist comfortably?
Yes, since 2 years. It was very difficult to initiate. But it’s going good. I feel much better in my life rn .
That’s great, we can talk more . I start taking but Corona hits
If it is friendly people get an emotional attachment . I feel we need to make it common like physical illness. Still so,sometimes people don’t go to the doctor when they are ill because it shows weakness 🤷♀️
Just how police get used to blood crimes, therapists also lose the ability to sympathise with patients, overtime they view their patients objectively, and not as an individual.
I don’t think therapists “sympathise” instead they - empathise. The more people they see, the more their empathy develops I feel. They will look at things objectively for sure, cause bias could only produce bad outcomes. But I think they consider the person as whole individual - holistically. I disagree with your pov.
From someone that’s been to 3 therapists in 4 years, I think I have an idea of what therapists are. Therapists are not people that grow in empathy with more patients they see, they instead lose the ability to empathise from within over time. And in my experience, the younger a therapist is, the better. If it’s an old woman, it’s a red flag.
I take it you are a therapist or aspiring to be?
I’m not sure about that. I’m not a therapist. I did studying psychology in bachelors but I pursued something else as I didn’t want to become one
