Is it just my thinking or western culture really don't understand emotions that much?

Like i usually read some posts here that their parents are abusing them over the limit 
Or like if they are toget for more than 10 or 20 years its an achievement for them...

Then why to go over the limits even when someone needs you....

Like i have read some post here in which parents don't understand their own child when they need them but abuse them if they have done something wrong...
