Rather than making any excuses say it straight if that person wants to have connection or to be your side then he/she will understand otherwise leave it it’s their choice. I m also a same time of person like 1 or 2 times it’s okay but it’s not necessary that always us needed to be adjust.

Say that you don’t have privacy at home so you can’t talk over call. Always works

Talk about how you feel would be nice conversation to start, that you feel comfortable while you are texting as compared to on call, sometimes we think more than it actually is. I am sure that person would understand and there is nothing to feel guilty about hurting others if you are not comfortable while doing something. Hope this helps:)
