Hello, I need help with my decision, I’ve been helping my older sister for 11 years by letting her pay the rent half off($1000) on my rentals unit. in fact I lower $200 more when she lost her job. she had been paying $800 monthly on a $2000 monthly duplex. Last month she hit $150K jackpot at the casino.
She planed to give her 3 children money and pay off their car loan and properly what is left over will properly lost it all back to the casino within a year or so. She is so addicted to the Casino. Most of the time she would pay me late on rent. She still wanna pay me $800 for the rest of her life to live in my house. should I ask her to pay me $1500 monthly since she have the money and if she broke then I can lower her rent back to $1000. I kind of upset and not fair for me that I been helping her instead I can make extra $12k a year on rent. Now that she has the money she did see I was helping her for 11 years, In her mind she think she just pay rent like any another tenants. Next week I will have a talk with her about it, I know there will be a conflict between us. any suggest from all of you will help me make a correct decision.

hi buddy i belive that you should st op lowering her rent otherwise she will take it for granted and just blowup her money in casinos , which i believe is not right.
so yeah talk to her and increas the rent if not full 2k then make it atleast 1500 bucks as you said .

I have helped a friend stay rent-free for several months… not once did she bother to assist with any utilities…
She had a higher paying job and did little to none to help with house-work/ cooking or inspections…
I eventually decided to tell her off so she could start looking for a house… what was meant to be 1 week lasted 2 months and she had absolutely no decency to even say thank you…
She often narrates her sad story about how she was couch-surfing and was at her lowest in life… still made alot of money and saved it…
When she left I decided to ask her to atleast pay electricity and water, splitting between all residents… she lost all my respect when she asked to show her all invoices and calculations… for an absolutely small amount and despite the bills increasing since her stay…
Unfortately, after this I will never be helping anyone…
And i suggest you don’t take it easy either or just tell her that you may have to find another tenant
