Girls, If your parent says that you should wear something that covers your legs when you wear a dress, what do you tell them?
Context- I was going out with a guy friend, I was wearing a knee length dress. My dad said I should wear something that covers my legs and also said that he doesn’t like me going out with boys. I told him that friends are friends, be it a guy or a girl. I also told him that it’s wrong to question a girls choice of clothing. He asked me why? And he said I should be dressed appropriately. I said there’s nothing inappropriate about wearing a dress or a skirt in summer being a girl. I mean he’s so moody. He’s never had such issues, idk what triggered this(maybe it was coz of going out with my guy friend) (he knows this guy friend and has said that he’s a nice guy in the past). Why are parents so moody? -_-
believe me I get it sometimes it is really annoying but they just want us to be safe and see from their point of view unke jamane me toh ye sab nahi tha aur abhi suddenly and this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be allowed to wear it but take it slow I’m sure they’ll understand eventually
I get it that they are a little narrow minded which comes from their generation’s upbringing. However, it’s high time they understand clothes are a choice and they don’t define my character. We got to normalise it and make them understand.

Simply becoz they care for u. Also they are conservative but mostly theyre trying to be good parents
I generally avoid arguments and discussions with my parents because I know it’s futile, most of the time I am trying to explain them but they just listen to shut me up and make be obey them, so when such a thing happens with me like clothing or night outs and all, I take off the leggings after leaving home, maybe in a mall’s washroom, or in some restaurant’s washroom, or in the cab if I feel comfortable and put it on again while coming home. It is very sad that I need to take this much effort just to enjoy my freedom which nobody, not even my parents are validator or owner of, but Ii don’t wish to compromise with my peace of mind by arguing with them, also they don’t want to change or understand. I feel, if you can talk to them without being gaslighted and irritated by them, then just stick to your choices, do not do anything to please them, let them say what they want, you put forth your opinion and period. You want to wear what you want, go wherever you wish to and with whoever you want, you don’t need anybody’s permission, not even your parents’
